Modules for global justice
Below you will find several training resources that will help you understand the world in relation to global inequalities, conflicts, discrimination and violations of rights, but also understand the responses of the civil society from nonviolent perspective. These modules have been developed by SCI Catalunya in collaboration with Escola de Cultura de Pau, l’Etnogràfica, l’Observatori del deute en la Globalització (ODG), Fotomovimiento and GRITIM (UPF).
CULTURE OF PEACE
What is positive and negative peace? What is conflict? What is violence? We analyze concepts and understand why peace action is still important today.
FORCED DISPLACEMENT
Which armed conflicts are generating forced displacement and migration around the world? What are their causes and consequences in civil societies? What violations of rights are they generating?
GENDER AND PEACEBUILDING
How do we analyze global justice from a gender perspective? What is the impact of global conflicts and inequalities on women, girls and the LGBTIQ + community? We tackle rights violations and discover proposals for change.
THE ROLE OF THE YOUTH FOR PEACE
What role do young people play in peace-building? How do they feel about inequality and how do they deal with it? We know experiences from the youth movement for peace.
PEACE STRATEGIES IN CATALONIA
Learn about experiences of nonviolent civil mobilization at home and analyze the potential for transformation and construction of global peace and justice. Through this capsule you will discover creative and purposeful responses to the current political context.
CLIMATE JUSTICE
Analyze the context of the environmental crisis, its causes and consequences, and look for experiences of changing the model that seeks sustainability and care for nature and its resources.
INTERSECTIONAL FEMINISMS
In feminist theory, what position has analysis of race taken up? In racism studies, where does gender feature? How do gender and race shape social class?
ETHICAL PHOTOGRAPHY
Photography is a source of empowerment for groups facing situations of exclusion that need to be made visible. We will become aware of why and how to use the camera as a tool for social transformation.
MIGRATION IN THE MEDITERRANEAN
The central aim of this capsule is to provide a general overview regarding migration in the Mediterranean that differs from how the issue is usually described by the mainstream media and portrayed by political discourses.
RACIALIZATION AND RACISM
What is racialization, and what impact does it have in terms of racism, discrimination, and social exclusion? We will learn to identify the processes of Otherness that are founded upon ‘racial’ categories.
RIGHT TO ASYLUM
What is the right to asylum? How is it currently applied? In this module, we will learn how and why this right came into being, what form it has taken since the Second World War, the reasons behind recent developments affecting it and how it has found specific expressions in a range of different historical and political contexts and periods.
CLIMATE CRISIS AND MIGRATION
This capsule offers in-depth learning regarding the relationship between climate change and the global movement of people, how this affects their lives, what actions are being taken by countries both in the Global North and South, and what can be done to address this issue.
