We’ve just published our second edition of the toolkit: “To exist is to resist. Handbook for Volunteers to Palestine”!
In spite of the current turbulent and very dramatic situation in Palestine, we must look at the future with hope and keep preparing those who will choose to carry out their volunteering work in this land. With this goal in mind, SCI Catalunya has just published its toolkit “To exist is to resist. Handbook for Volunteers to Palestine” which is aimed at supporting the preparation process of International Volunteering Service volunteers who participate in Workcamps, Long Term Volunteering or European Voluntary Service projects that take place in Palestine. The toolkit is divided in two main parts: the first one covers the historical, political and social context of Palestine and the second one is aimed at sharing key practical information and general advice to those who are going to undertake their volunteering project in Palestine.
This is the second edition of the handbook that we published in collaboration with long-term partners Baladna, Association for Arab Youth, that has curated it together with the participation of the SCI Catalunya local group of activists MidiCat, who has enriched the content by sharing feedback and comments based on their first-hand experience while volunteering in Palestine.
We are aware that this toolkit is being published at a time of great uncertainty and rapid deterioration of the situation in Palestine, as the war in Gaza is still ongoing. For this reason, some of the practical aspects that we recommend in this toolkit need to be continuously reviewed and updated. In addition, following the outbreak of the war in Gaza, Baladna staff have been overwhelmed by urgent tasks and some of the sections of this toolkit could not be finalised. However, we hope to be able to continue updating this toolkit and use it as an active tool for further research, and to keep us well informed about the situation in Palestine.
