VALLS DE SIARB: Recovery of ancient roads and discovery of the Valley of Siarb (1st – 14th of July)
Description: The purpose of this workcamp is to recover and maintain the ancient paths of Vall de Siarb, a very unique and interesting valley in the heart of the Pyrenees. These paths were used during many centuries until the 1960s-70s. They represent a huge heritage that is why we want to keep all of them in the valley as an open-air museum. During the workcamp, participants will discover the surroundings of the Valley of Siarb, get to know the geographical features of the Parc de l’Alt Pirineu and how to frame the valley in the Park, learn more about the region of Pallars Sobirà and its idiosyncrasies.
Tasks: There will be all kinds of tasks regarding recovering and improving of old paths: clearing paths, rebuilding dry stone walls, putting stones aside, improving trail signs with paint and pavement stretches of trails. We spend all the working hours (4 hours) in the nature, surrounded by forests, fields, etc. The work is very manual and physical.
SANT MARTÍ SESGUEIOLES: Discovering the past through archeology (5th – 18th of July; or 19th – 30th of July)
Description: We are the city council of Sant Martí Sesgueioles. This year we have started with the archaeological project of the municipality and we plan to excavate the castle of Vilallonga. Our primary objective is to recover the history of the municipality and to be able to articulate, together with nearby archaeological projects, the historical account of the area.
Type of work: Mainly tasks of excavation, drawing and washing of fragments. Practically all jobs are physical although there are drawing ones and others. The tasks apart from the archaeological works will be those carried out in a field.
HOSTALRIC: Recovery of historical memory through art (15th – 27th of July)
Description: The Association for the Historical Heritage of Hostalric has been hosting SCI workcamps for years. Previously, the tasks consisted of the archaeological work and restoration of the Castle of Hostalric. This year, however, the main tasks will revolve around the reconstruction of the environment and the dissemination of the historical memory of the town together with the local community.
Tasks: The tasks are related to issues of historical memory, art and recovery of the environment.
Description: The Fabrica de Can Tusell is a non-profit organization that works 25 years in the field of education providing recreational activities for children and youth. We put in practice children’s rights and try to promote youth participation in their immediate surroundings and in the whole social field. In the communitarian land of the Comanglora we organize summer camps and weekend excursions.
Tasks: The tasks that will be done aim to improve the natural space of Comanglora by recovering the paths and the wells and by taking care of the fauna.
VALLS: Incredible sustainability (1st – 15th of August)
Description: Can Pipirimosca is an organic farm where living in a more simple and sustainable way is part of the activism for caring of the environment. The project is nowadays focused as the headquarters to support activities in towns (transition town, urban gardens, free market) as part of the environmental activism. Can Pipi is a place based on permaculture principles. Deep ecology retreats take place to raise awareness.
Tasks: The tasks will be to support the fair, building elements to be used in the fair, preparing the space of the garden, making posters, preparing workshops, during the fair assembly, making workshops, supporting activities, monitoring the situation. We will also support a couple of local projects during the workcamp. Activities and events are held there and in the town throughout the year. Ecology, coexistence, personal growth and education are the ultimate objectives of Can Pipirimosca.
BARCELONA: Fira d’Economia Solidària de Catalunya (19th – 26th October)
Description: The Fira d’Economia Solidària de Catalunya is the time of year when all the entities in the field are grouped in the same space and debates take place on the role of another economy in the field of Catalonia. At the same time, it involves an extra workload. This is an opportunity for a good exchange between people interested in the movement of alternative economies and who can lend a hand in the assembly and maintenance of the X FESC.
Tasks: The tasks of the volunteers will consist of supporting the logistics of the Fira d’Economia Solidària de Catalunya. For example: the preparation of the material, the assembly of the space, the distribution of materials and the disassembly of the Fair, among others.
