My ESC journey with SCI Catalunya

My ESC journey with SCI Catalunya

Have you ever questioned yourself, what am I doing in my life? Or where am I going?

Before starting my ESC, I had this question in my head for a while and I really didn’t have a clear answer until I got an email from SCI Catalunya “we are happy to inform you that you been selected for our ESC position”.

I have been around volunteering and participating in different workcamps and projects all around, but I always wanted to reach a state of mind where it’s longer than a week or 10 days, I was looking for something bigger that will change something in me. I reached to this state when I got the chance to do my ESC project with SCI Catalunya.

The idea of leaving your country to try to find yourself is hard on anyone who thinks about it, I won’t lie and say it was easy, but it was worth every second of it. My participation with SCI Catalunya was eye-opening and challenging, but the way things went felt like I’m living my life to the fullest in and out of the office.

Ever since I started my ESC journey with SCI Catalunya, I have had so many different opportunities to help on improving myself and my experience in many different paths. SCI Catalunya’s family were like a safe space for me where I felt like I’m welcomed and respected. The things they provided for me were all revolving around making this experience worth it and it did!. They helped me in improving my Catalan language, they were always there when needed, and the most important: they always motivated me to get the best version out of me. I was introduced to many trainings and project along the way and here is the story behind a couple of them.

During my ESC I stayed in contact with many local group members and discussed all the projects they’re working on and I was so invested to be a part of some of the groups as I do align with their values and the goals they are trying to achieve. I had the chance to participate with them in a lot of their projects. This opportunity was life-changing for me as I think I finally found the people I want to be surrounded by. The projects opened my eyes a lot and I had the chance to prove to myself and others that Palestinians are worth living and can do a change even if just by words.

The experience itself was informative and I learned a lot of things that I know will help me in the future. I met people from all around the world during this year, which also helped in creating a huge social network/connection with people/volunteers from everywhere.

My ESC project gave me the chance to work on future plans with a lot of working groups and as a result of participating I got onboard to work with some. And already started planning for future projects that will make a change and help a lot of people from different backgrounds.

Overall participation in many different projects will only bring good results as you never know what is waiting for you on the other side, that’s why I always try to include myself with work that I know might not be the best plan at first but will have a huge effect in my life and future.

The projects or trainings I participated in were all good and helped in improving my work, life and network. These opportunities are hard to find, but with my ESC in Catalonia I had the chance to find all the different paths that I can follow.
