On Friday 3rd of March I had the pleasure to conduct a workshop on the narratives around the climate responsability. The main aim of this workshop was to deconstruct the idea of blaming individuals for the current climate crisis. Through presenting a small part of the scientific view on climate change together with analysis of main causes for the increase of the greenhouse gasses emissions we managed to break down some of the most common misconceptions around individual responsibility.
The aim of the presentation was not to complete take the responsibility off the hands of individuals, but rather to shift it from our daily consumption choices onto the active engagement in the public life of their state and pushing authorities that have a first order responsibility for handling the policies that can lead us to tackling the problem of current climate catastrophe. We also discussed some ideas on how SCI Catalunya can promote activism through its activities.
The whole workshop ended with a discussion about what does it mean to be an activist and which tactics of advocacy are the most effective.
